GUIDELINES

Our mission is to discover and promote emerging Canadian filmmakers. We are looking for great short films from every region of the country.

Submission is FREE. A modest licence fee is paid to each of the nine filmmakers selected for the season.

​

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

​

1. Filmmaker must be a Canadian Citizen and at least 19 years of age.

​

2. The subject/theme must be a Comedy or a Drama. Live action and animation are eligible. Music videos or documentaries are NOT eligible.

​

3. The film must be under 12 minutes in length (not including credits) and must have been completed in the past three years (after July 1, 2022).

​

4. Content must be suitable for a family audience in the 7 p.m. timeslot at the discretion of CBC. 

​

5. Films that have been screened at film festivals, public venues, or previously broadcast on television or have been available online are accepted as long as there are no agreements or negotiations that would prevent the film from being broadcast on CBC Television or CBC websites, including Gem.

​

6. The producer or director must own or hold all rights to the film including music. 

​

7. The producer or director will be required to sign an agreement giving Short Film Face Off the right to licence the film to be broadcast on CBC Television and CBC websites.

​

8. Submissions open on February 17, 2025. Deadline for submissions is March 21, 2025.
